Can you hear sound from the aurora? This is a very controversial question. Many people have reported hearing sound in the conjunction with seeing strong aurora. Science has not yet confirmed it.What you can say is that the aurora contributes to the creation of VLF radio waves in the frequency range 20-20000 Hz and that's also the frequency range in which people can hear sound. You can listen to the VLF radio waves with a receiver built for that purpose. I have built myself such a receiver according to the design by my friend Göte Flodqvist. Here I have put a couple of examples of what you can hear. |
